Brooke Murphy

Ms. Murphy has dedicated her career to helping families in transition and has worked in the field of law for over a decade.  She focuses her practice on all aspects of family law, including dissolution of marriage, domestic violence matters, child and spousal support, property characterization and division, high conflict custody and visitation disputes, and parentage. She also helps clients seek name and gender changes by securing court orders and changing government identity documents.

Ms. Murphy served as Chair of the Family Law Section of the San Mateo County Bar Association in 2023.  In her role as Chair, Ms. Murphy was a liaison between the Family Law Section’s 375 members and the Family Law Division of the San Mateo County Superior Court.

Ms. Murphy served on the Board of Directors for the San Mateo County Bar Association in 2023 and was the President of the Barristers Section in 2022.  She also volunteers as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in the foster care system in San Mateo County.

Ms. Murphy has completed the 40-hour mediation and conflict resolution training led by Gary Friedman with the Center for Understanding in Conflict. 

Background

Ms. Murphy earned her J.D. from University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly known as University of California, Hastings College of the Law).  Prior to joining ADZ Law, LLP, Ms. Murphy was a judicial extern for the Honorable Daniel A. Flores in the Family Law Division of the San Francisco Superior Court.  During law school, Ms. Murphy was an executive board member of the nationally ranked moot court team, where she was awarded Best Oral Advocate at the 51st Annual David E. Snodgrass Moot Court Competition.  Ms. Murphy was a certified law clerk at Bay Area Legal Aid and received recognition as a Wiley W. Manual honoree for outstanding achievement in pro bono.  At graduation, Ms. Murphy was elected by her law school peers to give the commencement address.

After law school, Ms. Murphy returned to UC Law San Francisco to work as an Adjunct Professor, where she taught legal research and writing.

Ms. Murphy has been named a Super Lawyers® Northern California Rising Star in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.  Each year, only 2.5% of attorneys in California are named to the Super Lawyers® Rising Stars List.
